LISKEARD Athletic have appointed Martin Burgess as the new manager of the club's Carlsberg South West Peninsula League side for the 2012-13 campaign.

He will take over the reins at Lux Park from Darren Edwards and Karl Curtis, who have made the switch to Torpoint Athletic.

Burgess has successfully completed his manager's apprenticeship with Saltash United's second team and Vospers Oak Villa's Peninsula League Division One (West) outfit.

'It has been my ambition to move up to the Premier Division since leaving Vospers and I'm delighted to have been given the chance with a club that I consider one of the best in the League,' said Burgess, who had led Vospers to fourth and fifth-place finishes in his two seasons at Weston Mill, without a penny to spend on players.
