AN East Cornwall youngster is celebrating after becoming one of seven girls to be selected for the GB Development Squad in kayaking. Bronte Holden, a student at Fowey Community College, is a previous winner of the Kayak Marathon National championships at under-ten and 12 levels and has been paddling at the Golant-based River Fowey Canoe Club since the age of six, under the watchful eye of coach Kevin Pearce. The 14-year-old is now supervised by former Olympic coach Brian Greenway, and sponsored by The New Inn, Tywardreath. The Marathon Kayaking League operates with nine divisions, with Bronte being the youngest member of the Fowey club to achieve a Division Five ranking.
