Cornish rider Ben Barker (pictured) has joined Plymouth Devils for this weekend’s meetings against Edinburgh.

They will look to build on their strong start to the league season when they meet Edinburgh Monarchs in the Premier League Knockout Cup in Edinburgh tonight (Friday), with the Monarchs visiting the St Boniface Arena, Plymouth, tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Plymouth are still without a permanent Number 1 rider, after Charlie Gjedde’s sudden departure from UK speedway last week. However, the club has secured the services of Cornishman Ben Barker to cover. Fans’ favourite Barker, who last rode for the Devils in 2014, is something of a track specialist at Plymouth.

Team Manager, Lee Trigger said: ‘There is no one better around the St Boniface Arena than Ben. He has a fantastic record around our track and it will be great to see him back.’

Barker has opted to ride for Glasgow Tigers this season, but is still based in Cornwall.
