St Mellion Golf Club members gathered on the first tee of the Kernow course to watch the new men's captain Frank Blake start the event with the captain's drive-in followed by a shotgun start for the Turkey Trot.

The event was jointly hosted by Frank and the new lady captain Mary Brinsley.

A total of 90 players took part with the 10 first-placed pairs receiving a prize. The winning pair was Neville Wootton and Andrew Corfield who achieved 45 points in the Greensomes Stableford Event only beating Cheryl and Alan Bridgeman on countback.

There were also two nearest-the-pin prizes which were won by Sue Wenmouth on the 16th and Alan Bridgemen on the 7th.

One of the most important aspects of the day is to raise money for the captain's charity. Frank has selected the Children's Hospice South West as his charity and a total of £58 was raised by members trying to beat the captain's drive on the first tee.

The winner was Mark Blake (Frank's son) who out-drove his father by some distance! It is expected members will support the captain and St Mellion to raise further monies for this charity throughout 2015.
