A POLPERRO woman who lost her husband to brain cancer has spoken of her love and loss – and how a good friend is running to raise funds in his memory.
Jackie and Andrew Cullum were married in August 2008 and the arrival of their daughter Paige in 2011 made their happiness complete.
However, in September 2013, Andrew was airlifted from his ship to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, with severe pain in his head. Jackie was worried but the couple were told it was a tension headache and that Andrew could go home.
Six weeks later, Andrew fell off a ladder while on board ship. This time he was taken for a scan. The results showed he had a brain tumour.
Andrew, who was 37 years old when diagnosed, fought hard against it for a year.
Now a good friend of the family, Zoe Maycox, is planning to run the London Marathon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research in Andrew’s memory. Zoe, 47, has to reach £1,600 by New Year’s Eve in order to secure a place in April’s event. As part of the fundraising drive, Zoe and Jackie will hold a table-top sale at Polperro Methodist Church on Saturday, December 5 at 11am.
