YOUNG journalists are needed to report from the G7 summit in Cornwall this summer.

The Writers’ Block will be running a Young People’s News Hub in Falmouth during the summit from 11-13 June, when delegates from the world’s leading democracies will be meeting in Carbis Bay to discuss the global climate crisis.

A team of young 12–18 year-old reporters is being put together who’ll be ready to hone their skills as keen writers, confident interviewers, fast workers and energetic thinkers. You could be one of them!

Anyone interested will need to take part in two training sessions, one during the week of 10 May and the other in the week of 31 May (half term). The first will be on Zoom after school hours, and the second will be at the News Hub at Falmouth University, Woodlane, Falmouth.

The News Hub will run for all three days of the G7 Summit from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 June.

A spokesperson for Writers’ Block said: “You will work as part of a team and need to be willing to prepare a variety of stories for both social media and local radio, as well as written content. You will need to able to organise your own travel to and from Falmouth, bearing in mind that roads and public transport will be very busy that weekend.”

Mentors for the young people involved will include Leo Devine, former head of BBC South West, journalist and writer Rebecca Gregson, and a team of young professional writers and students in their 20s.

Travel costs will be covered and food provided.

Anyone wishing to apply should email the following:

- Why you want to join the News Hub, what excites you about the idea and what you want to gain from the experience. Please give your full name, your age and where you live.

- Also include a few lines from a parent, carer or teacher as to why you would be good for this role and their contact email address.

The deadline is Friday 30 April - Please email [email protected]
