Pensilva experienced the 'highs' and 'lows' of football when they visited DJM U-16 Rodney leaders Chaddlewood. A '50-50' tackle early in the second half, left the young 'Pens' captain Wayne Downing with a badly broken ankle that has left him hospitalised and awaited surgery.

This overshadowed a fine battling team display by the visitors who became only the second side this season to take a point from their hosts from a 2-2 draw.

The home side dominated early possession, but despite this any goal bound attack was thwarted by some resolute defending from Pensilva. Indeed the 'back four' held firm and were well led by centre backs Dan Sharp and 'Spud' Pocock. The remainder of the half saw some very competitive football but neither side were able to control the midfield area where so often a game can be won or lost.

Chaddlewood opened the scoring early in the second half but within 60 seconds Pensilva were level. Dan Loftus delivered the perfect ball into the box which was headed into the net by Phil Lucas. 'Pens' now began to play the better football and this seemed to unsettle the home side and just as the visitors were controlling the game, Downing suffered his terrible injury.

With only 11 players available Pensilva had to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men but they showed tremendous spirit and commitment and against the odds netted a second goal when Stephen Howells fired home from close range. The home side found themselves behind in a game for the first time this season and they set about trying to rectify the deficit. Pensilva were dealt another blow when Joel Key hobbled from the field of play to leave only nine men to face the final two minutes. Despite a brave rearguard action the equaliser came for Chaddlewood with less than 30 seconds remaining. The relief amongst the home players was there for all to see, never the less a fine display of grit and determination from the visitors.

The Pensilva players, management and supporters would like to convey their very best wishes to Wayne Downing for a speedy recovery. Opp MOM - Phil Lucas.

The first few minutes of this DJM U-14 clash saw Saltash youth take the initiative and go on the attack. With their aggressiveness and passing football, they shocked SB Frankfort with their attitude and approach to this game. With both teams trying to play passing, attacking football, it was SB Frankiort who started to come out on top.

SB took the lead after 10 minutes. This gave the initiative to SB who went looking to increase the score. Shortly after SB made it 2-0. With Saltash's defence looking to push out they were caught flat footed, a ball from midfield was played through for the SB forwards to chase and with cool and accurate finishing it was 2-0.

This is how it stayed until half time. Saltash attacked well but it was just the killer instinct that was lacking in the penalty area. At the other end Steve Symes, in goal for Saltash, kept them in the game with several excellent saves.

The second half started much as the first with Saltash having no luck. Five minutes into the half SB made it 3-0, scoring from close range. For the rest of the game it was from one end to the other. All in all this was a good game, the attacking play of SB was matched by the dogged and sometimes excellent defending of Saltash. Also by an inspired goalkeeping display from Symes, who with many outstanding saves kept Saltash in the game.

Against one of the top sides in the U14s DJM age group the lads can give themselves a pat on the back for the way in which they played. Saltash's man of the match was Symes and opponents Man of the Match, as chosen by SB's coach was Dominic Tomasso.
