Well done! to Mrs Shepherd on "High Lighting" the roaming cattle problem. I think it is disrespectful to say that anyone would prefer cattle grazing in a churchyard to having the grass mowed. I know which I would prefer for the departed of my nearest and dearest. It certainly wouldn't be the cattle.
My query is how often are the Common Rights revised? As I see it was when local people had just a few animals. Like the late Fred Doney, whose animals never created the problems that we now face. Local farmers not only fend to keep their own stock in but on the road hedges, to keep the invaders out. The hedges around the village torn to shreds. I still say why hasn't fencing of the commons been considered, where farmers with common rights take the cattle/sheep to graze, and eliminate the number of accidents caused.
Now this long standing problem has been highlighted, let's see some action.
RUTH LIGHTFOOT.
