SOUTH East Cornwall does not seem to have been too badly affected by the overnight storms and continuing high winds this morning.

There has been some flooding in Looe, but weather boards are out and it’s business as usual in the town. Fallen trees have affected some minor roads.

The authorities have warned people in coastal communities to be prepared for high tide again this evening, though no flood warnings are currently in place for later today. You can follow updates at flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk

Weather forecasters had been warning of the dangers of a combination of winds gusting to 60mph, heavy rain and unusually high tides from the early hours of this morning.

The tides have also hit abnormal lows, meaning it was possible to walk to Looe Island yesterday – and play cricket in the River Tamar today, with a Devon v Cornwall game staged on the mudflats.

Some trains between Plymouth and Exeter have been affected because of the expected bad weather on the seafront section of the line at Dawlish.

Cornwall’s Fire and Rescue Service have been dealing with flooding incidents in Penzance and St Mawes.
