A VILLAGE that couldn’t hold its annual fair on the green this year has gone to extra creative efforts to make up for it.
Menheniot Cherry Fayre would normally have taken place last week with the main event including a parade, contests and live music on Saturday.
Anyone who has walked around or driven through the village recently will have seen that the scarecrow competition has attracted lots of entries – around 40. Lockdown home-schooling and binge TV hits are among the themes that have featured.
The NHS, farmers and VE Day are also topics seen among the colourful entries.
Voting for winners took place on Facebook under the categories of ‘Thank you to all keyworkers’ and ‘Use your imagination’ – and people have been enjoying tours of the scarecrows on their walks in Menheniot.
‘Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to make a scarecrow for our 2020 lockdown competition,’ said Gemma Williams. ‘The response has been great and the entries are brilliant – the village looks amazing.’
