LOOE residents and shop owners are being asked to be prepared for more flooding next week after warnings from harbourmaster Jeff Penhaligon and Cornwall councillor Edwina Hannaford.

Mr Penhaligon says high tides over four days running from Wednesday, November 14, through to the Saturday, are at the same height as when the town flooded twice in one day three weeks ago.

'I would advise people to watch barometers for low pressure,' he said.

'If we also have southerly to south-easterly wind directions and heavy rain on those days, then I am afraid the water will be in the streets again.'

Cllr Hannaford says people should be aware that Cornwall Council and the town council do not supply sandbags.

'It is their responsibility to protect their property against flooding,' she said.

'I strongly advise that residents also sign up for the Environmental Agency flood warning alerts by calling 0845 988 1188.'

She added that the town council would, however, be endeavouring to slow down irresponsible drivers who were partly responsible for the recent flooding in some properties, through driving too fast and causing waves.
