Saltash Town Band leave for a 10-day 25th anniversary concert tour of Austria on August 2.

This will be the first time the band has ever played in Europe, and all the players say they are looking forward to the experience.

The band's public relations officer, Mike Clarke, said it will give them a chance to put their talents on display, and introduce some Cornish music to an Austrian audience.

They plan to perform six concerts throughout the Salzburg region, and also one in Germany.

The tour has been organised by the band's flugal horn player, Mike Elson, and thanks have gone to him for all the effort he has put in.

This year has proved exceptional for the band. In February they produced their first CD, 'Tamar Crossings'.

This was followed by success in the Cornwall Brass Band Association contest in Truro where they came first in their section.

Success followed on at the West of England regional brass band association contest at Torquay where they not only achieved promotion into the third section, but also gained an invitation to compete in the national finals in Preston, later in September.

The band would welcome local sponsorship to help fund their attendance at the finals. Appleby Westward at Saltash has started the ball rolling by donating £50. Anyone who can help should ring Mike Clarke on 01752 849419.
