Plans to

improve lights

PLANS are being made to try to further enhance the Christmas lights display in Torpoint in future years.

The town's chamber of commerce has introduced improvements in recent years and has been discussing further developments.

"We are hoping next year to go for funding for an illuminations project. We will be approaching various bodies," said chamber secretary Mike Briggs.

The illuminations could be displayed over a larger area and special convertible brackets could be put in place which could then be used for hanging baskets of flowers in the summer.

This year's Christmas lights are lit from dusk until midnight each day. They will stay in place until the end of the 12 days of Christmas.

Festive events

at the Library

TWO Christmas events are being held at Torpoint Library next week.

On Tuesday, December 19, there will be a coffee morning between 10am and noon to which all the library's customers are welcome.

Mince pies will be served and there will be a display of crafts including woodturning items.

On Friday, December 22, a fun morning entitled Winter Tales will be held for children beginning at 10.30am.

Storyteller Don Newton from Barnstaple in North Devon will be visiting to entertain youngsters up to the age of 11.

Tickets costing £1 are available in advance from the library.

"It will be an exciting event just before Christmas," said library manager Kate Wilton.

Charity Quiz was great success

THE fun charity quiz held last week at the Comrades club in Torpoint was a great success. 25 teams took part, answering serious and silly questions.

The music section was performed by the Torpoint Lady Singers, followed by carol singing which put everybody in the Christmas mood. The local firefighters won the quiz and donated their £60 prize to their benevolent fund and FLEET.

In second were the 'Pickled Snails' who gave their £30 to the RNLI and in third were the Sec's team with £10 for Luke's Hospice.

The raffle and auction raised a fantastic £356 which was split between the local brownies and the Jack and Jill playgroup. The organiser Mal Girling would like to thank everyone who was involved, especially the traders of Torpoint who were most generous with their raffle prizes.

Over the last three years, these quizes have proved to be very popular and have raised £2022, all of which went to charities and good causes, mainly local ones. The next quiz will be at Easter.

Janette

as host

TORPOINT Lady Singers are to hold a joint concert with the Rame Peninsula male voice choir on December 22 at 7.30pm.

The event will be in St James church, Torpoint and admission will be £3 by ticket or at the door. The concert is to be hosted by Janette Eathorne of Radio Cornwall.
