STUDENTS from Torpoint Community College have helped to break a Guinness World Record for the most people reading online in 12 hours.
Year 7 and 8 pupils recently took part in National Literacy Trust's Take 10 to Read event, an international campaign that encourages people to read for 10 minutes every day to improve their wellbeing and support their literacy.
An incredible 153,862 people from 92 countries and territories took part, with more than 3,000 schools, libraries, businesses and community groups around the globe joining the celebration of reading.
The record-setting event showed how reading can connect people across cultures, languages and borders.
A spokesperson for Torpoint Community College said: “A huge congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 8 students, who recently took part in the National Literacy Trust's Take 10 to Read event.
“Thanks to the efforts of readers around the world, the event has officially achieved a Guinness World Record title for the most people reading online in 12 hours.
“We are proud that our Year 7 and 8 students contributed to this amazing achievement. By taking just ten minutes to read together, they became part of a global event that celebrated stories, literacy and the joy of reading.
“Well done to everyone who got involved. We hope this inspires you to keep picking up a book and making time to read!”
