The third Torpoint Ferry has gone back into service this morning.

The ferry has been away for weeks having a refit and, in the meantime, the service has been subject to huge delays when one of the two remaining ferries has been out of action with a fault.

Ferry boss David List said this morning: ’I am very pleased to advise that the third ferry, Plym II, went back into operation from 9am today, allowing us to provide a full scheduled service.

’On behalf of the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee, I would like to apologise most sincerely to our users for the very protracted episode of reduced service level and reliability that resulted from an extended refit period and then subsequently an unprecedented long period of fault-finding and remedial work to recommission the vessel following its return to Torpoint.

’We will be reviewing the refit and recommissioning process in fine detail over the next few weeks to identify and rectify any shortcomings to ensure that the next refits are completed more quickly and that recommissioning can be undertaken within a reasonable timescale.’
