MARK Gillett, a director of multiple SPAR store-operator Gilletts of Callington, joined in the celebrations as convenience store group SPAR hit a £1m target for the NSPCC, its charity of the year. Gilletts operates 48 SPAR stores throughout Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. The milestone was reached through fundraising initiatives supported by customers and SPAR store staff throughout the UK over the last two years. SPAR also donated money from the sale of a select range of their delicious sandwiches and created NSPCC-branded bags-for-life to raise even more funds. 'The partnership between NSPCC and SPAR reflects the pivotal role both organisations play in the local community,' said Mark. 'Staff from stores across the country, including our own, have engaged with the NSPCC's vision of ending child cruelty and their commitment and belief in the cause is evident in the achievement of raising £1m.' In September last year, SPAR was awarded the Retail Industry Outstanding Achievement Award, partly in recognition of its focus on the local community and support for the NSPCC.
