Swimming- Caradon Swimming Club success at British Championships
Masters swimmer Mick Swift, who regularly swims and trains with Caradon Swimming Club at Saltash Leisure Centre, recently entered the Great Britain Open Masters Cham-pionships held at Coventry.
Unlike any pool in the West Country, the pool at Coventry is 50 metres long. This 'Long-course' pool needs a slightly different tactical approach to that used in Devon or Cornwall's 25 metre pools so it is all the more to his credit that he managed to win Silver medals by coming second in both the 100 metres freestyle and in the 50 metres breastroke.
Mick's times were one minute 6.23 seconds in the freestyle; only 2 seconds slower than the outright winner, and 37.87 seconds in the breaststroke, which was less than half a second behind first place.
Congratulations are due to Mick for a really excellent per-formance. He lives with his wife Rita and sons David and Stephen (who are also both excellent swimmers having swum with the Club until last year) Rita has also supported the club well in the past as an official in several capacities.
When not competing or training with Caradon Swimming Club himself, Mick teaches swimming to youngsters at Saltash Leisure Centre.
