THE Primary Care Trust is holding an awareness- raising event about falling on June 27. The aim of the event is to help to ensure older people stay fit, healthy and independent. Amanda Crook, falls team leader for North and East Cornwall Primary Care Trust, said: 'As we get older, our risk of falling increases and the effects of falling can have a serious impact on a person's long term health and quality of life. 'However, there are lots of simple things that we can all do to reduce our risk of falling. I hope that anyone who is concerned about the risks of falling, their carers and relatives and staff from local care agencies will take the opportunity to pop along to our event and find out more about the support that is available and the simple actions that can be taken to avoid a fall. 'Staff from the PCT's falls clinics and balance groups will be at the event and will be available to answer any questions regarding falls and falls prevention.' Displays, information and staff from agencies involved with falls and falls prevention, for example, social services, Care and Repair, district councils, the Osteoporosis Society, Cornwall Mobility Centre, Cosyfeet and the Cornwall Blind Association. The event will run between 10am and 3pm at the Public Hall in Liskeard.
