Staff and customers at Saltash Leisure Centre have raised £783 for a Cornish charity supporting bereaved children, young people, parents and carers throughout the county. A treasure hunt, raffle and silent auction at the opening of the leisure centre's new gym all contributed to the fundraising for Penhaligon's Friends. One creative member of staff also managed to swell the funds by an extra £84 by charging entry to their anniversary party. Dean Blackett, customer adviser and finance assistant at Saltash Leisure Centre, said: 'We're thrilled to have raised so much for Penhaligon's Friends and would like to thank everyone who contributed. 'Local businesses generously provided prizes for the raffle and auction, and one customer even donated a cake decorated to look like the leisure centre pool. It was a terrific effort for a very worthy charity.' Saltash Leisure Centre regularly stages charity fund raising events, and Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Relief, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and St Luke's Hospice have all benefited in the past.
