Penzance 0 Liskeard Athletic 3

LISKEARD'S return to league action, after successfully negotiating three cup-ties, brought them three welcome points as they struck three goals in a powerful second half display at Penlee Park. 'It was a mature performance in the second half from a crop of talented youngsters,' said a proud Blues boss Dave Leonard. 'The average age of the team that finished this game was just 20 and I believe that there is not a team in this league that could boast a side younger than that,' said Leonard, who resisted the temptation to push up the age count by playing himself. The first half was largely consigned to the back shelf as both midfields wrestled for the upper hand but Liskeard were the more determined outfit after the break and they needed just 10 minutes to make the breakthrough. Good work down the right by Lee Harvey found Paul Baker lurking with intent at the far post to turn and strike a crisp drive just inside the far post from two yards. Penzance heads appeared to drop after this goal leaving the Blues to take complete control of the game with a second goal following in the 70th minute. Sam Matthews and Jamie Morrison-Hill combined down the right flank for the latter's cross to find Dominic Richardson to meet the ball on the full with a header the left goalkeeper Paul Williams rooted to the spot. With the game won Leonard took the opportunity to introduce two 17 year olds in Adam Carter and Argyle winger Marc Robotham. Robotham's pace left the Magpies left-back floundering before supplying the perfect cross for Carter to control with his first touch. The youngster turned sharply before smashing the ball low into the corner of the net for a finish that belied his tender years and supplied the game with its best goal. The two substitutes combined again, five minutes later, but this time Carter's towering header flew over Williams bar.
