Close results in Chairman's Cup

The newly formed competition for the teams who were knocked out in the early stages of the Whitbread Cup also staged their semi-finals and it produced some close and startling results.

At Dobsons Social Club two division four teams were drawn against each other in the way of Ivor Whale's Flyers and Ron Moore's Victorians where in a close game throughout both teams accounted for 476 pins at the final ball. It meant all players had to bowl a further three balls with the Victorians being the victor by five pins.

In the other semi-final, held at the British Legion Club, as expected there was no runaway victory as at half-time, Marion Rice's Marquees accounted for 247 pins as did Roger Terry's division one champion team, Hits and Misses. But it was towards the end of the game the Marquees produced the extra spare to win the game by just eight pins. Another grand final is predicted at Callington Social Club on Tuesday May 30th.
