Three sisters are preparing to take on the ’UK’s maddest zip wire’ in South East Cornwall for Parkinson’s UK on Sunday, April 9.
Gilly Argyle, 65, from Frome was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 16 years ago. This will be her second challenge for the charity as last year she abseiled the Cranmore Tower in Somerset.
Her efforts have inspired her two sisters, Daphne Lockwood, 66, from Truro and Rosemary Masters, 69, who lives in Paris, to join her for her latest adventure.
Daphne and Rosemary explain: ’We were really impressed as we watched Gilly taking on her abseil so this year we decided to be slightly more supportive, go for it and join her to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK. There may have been a bit of a guilt trip from Gilly too!
’In the UK, one person in every 500 has Parkinson’s and everyone’s experience is different but we, like many families have seen how the condition impacts on a person’s life, though clearly, it doesn’t necessarily stop them being amazing people doing amazing things!
’We hope our small contribution will support the charity in raising awareness, improving care, treatments and to ultimately find a cure.’
The sisters will travel 490m along the zip wire at Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard. They will be 50m in the air and reach speeds of 40mph.
They are hoping to raise £1,000 in sponsorship. To add to their total, visit their online sponsorship page here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/DaphneLockwood
The charity still has limited spaces available for the zipwire. Entry fee is just £10 and Parkinson’s UK asks fund-raisers to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.
Everyone who signs up will receive a free fund-raising pack, sponsorship forms, a Parkinson’s UK T-shirt and advice and support with fund-raising.
