TELEVISION and radio presenter Justin Leigh was the compere at a concert on Saturday evening at Saltash Wesley Church when two choirs, Loveny Male Voice Choir of Cornwall and the Stanborough Chorus based in Kingsbridge, Devon, sang to raise money for the Tsunami disaster. Entitled 'Bridging the Water', the concert included guest soloist soprano Rosemary Turner who delighted the audience accompanied by Adrian Vernon Fish on the piano. The Musical Director of both choirs was Rosemary Cole with accompanists Brian Knox for the Stanborough Chorus, and Sarah Scott and David Crocker for Loveny. Singing for the first time at Saltash, the Stanborough Chorus opened the concert with 'I was Glad', while Loveny opened with several African songs and 'Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord.' After a short interval the Stanborough Chorus continued with a selection of spiritual, folk and well-known songs, including 'Hail Poetry' by Gilbert and Sullivan. Loveny also sang several songs including a medley from 'Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat'. Then for the first time the two choirs combined to sing 'Cantique de Jean Racine' by Faure. The concert also featured a selection of songs performed by Rosemary Turner including 'I want to be a Prima Donna' which brought well-deserved applause from the audience.
