SINGERS are wanted to help resurrect Cornwall’s Man Engine.

The largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain and winner of the ‘Best Arts Project’ in the National Lottery Awards 2017, returns this Easter for his Resurrection Tour. The Man Engine transforms to his full 11.2m (the size of two-and-a-half double decker buses) height to the sound of music and creators Golden Tree Productions would like to invite enthusiastic singers to come along for free to the choir rehearsals.

They’ll be taught the lament ‘Sing from the Chamber to the Grave’ and the anthem ‘Hard Rock Cornish Miner’ in Geevor, Heartlands, Lostwithiel and Tavistock.

People don’t need to be professional singers, or even formal choir members - they just need to attend at least two of the rehearsals and as a thank you for their participation, Golden Tree is offering one free ticket to each choir member for any of the Afterdarker performances in Geevor, Heartlands, Lostwithiel or Tavistock.

There will be rehearsals in Lostwithiel led by Emma Mansfield on Saturday, March 3 from 2pm to 4pm, Saturday, March 17 from 2pm to 4pm and Thursday, March 29 from 7pm to 9pm (Lostwithiel Church Room) at St Bartholomew’s Church, Fore Street.

The Man Engine’s creator and director of Golden Tree Productions, Will Coleman said: ‘For those of you who were lucky enough to experience the mighty Man Engine back in 2016, you will know that it was the singing that really powered-up the emotion within the crowds so the role they play is absolutely crucial during the events. I must stress that you don’t need to be a professional singer, just full of passion and pride!’

The Man Engine choir will perform during the Afternooner ceremonies at Geevor, Heartlands, Lostwithiel and Tavistock on March 31, April 1, April 2 (Lostwithiel) and April 3.

The Man Engine will then continue his Resurrection Tour further, steaming up into Somerset, South Wales and up to the North of England.
