WITH fingers crossed for favourable weather conditions, 15 enthusiastic teams comprising of local businessmen and members of the community enjoyed a day of golf on the cliff-top course of Whitsand. In a continuing bid to raise £50,000 by April 2005 in order to apply to become a Specialist School of Humanities, Torpoint Community School hosted a Corporate Golf Day, on Friday September 24, courtesy of Paul Phillip and the Whitsand Bay Hotel. The main sponsors of the day were Wilkinsons Electrical Contractors of Torpoint, who entered two teams, sponsored three golf holes, and provided a Wide Screen TV for the fundraising auction. Other teams who supported the event were The Harbour Lights, The Wheelers Public House, 24/7 Taxis, The Trot Inn, South East Cornwall Repair Garage, The Garden Sports and Leisure Club, Torpoint School, Carbeile School, Saltash FC Veterans, RD Industries, and Howard Smih Papers. Lots of local businesses and organisations sponsored the event, and the Trot Inn donated raffle prizes. The day was a great success with the South East Repair Garage being the winning team, closely followed by 24/7 Taxis. The event was well attended, and it raised in excess of £3,400 towards Torpoint School's efforts to raise their target.
