CALLINGTON Town Hall was filled with more than 100 school children for a Fairtrade fortnight event. Organised by the Callington Fairtrade steering committee, the event featured a poster-making competition for the children. A centrepiece of the afternoon was The Chocolate Trading Game, which proved to be a huge success as groups of children representing cocoa growers, the chocolate factory and supermarkets competed with another set of Fairtrade growers and supermarkets. Meanwhile, women from the Cornerstone store were doing an encouraging trade selling Fairtrade products. Callington Primary School also staged a small choir which sang an African song. Organiser Jane Murray was encouraged by the event, along with her committee, and wishes to thank the Co-op for its generous support. Jane is confident that Callington is well on track to be given Fairtrade Town status within the next 12 months. 'The support from the local community and especially businesses has been encouraging and well-rewarded,' she said.
