SALTASH Lions Club says its members are ‘roaring’ to go for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee this coming spring.

Saltash Lions say they are delighted to announce that they will be honouring the Queen’s Jubilee marking her 70 years on the throne in great style as part of the Commonwealth’s celebrations, the accession following the death of King George VI having taken place on February 6, 1952.

The Saltash Platinum Jubilee event, due to take place on Saturday, June 4, promises to be packed with the 'thrills and spills' helping the town’s community to mark the Queen’s remarkable longest reign of any British monarch, and will be held at Warfelton Field, Saltash.

A spokesperson for the Lions Club said: “Saltash Lions’ jubilations will be supported by numerous local organisations and volunteers to ensure that this special event will be unforgettable and memorable.

“Taking part will be the Big and Bounce, supported by one of the country’s leading musical youth projects of Livewire performing the musical programme.

“In addition, the Saltash Fire Cadets will be in attendance sharing their knowledge of safety techniques.

“There will be many other Jubilee attractions to be announced at a later date.”

Furthermore, in keeping with Saltash Lions Club’s tradition of crowning Saltash Lions May Queen and Princesses, there will also be a special Lions funded Platinum Queen and King competition where the ‘Royal Couple’ will be in situ for a year. Saltash Lions will be contacting the Saltash primary schools and inviting their pupils within Year 6 to take part.

Auditions for the Platinum Queen and King will take place at Ashtorre Rock on Saturday, February 12, at 4pm. Parents and guardians of the selected pair will be informed of the conditions involved and of their anticipated attendances at various events during their ‘Royal’ year.

A commemorative gift will be given to all children who take part in this fun event.
