SALTASH could play a key role in meeting a growing demand for homes as billions of pounds of investment transforms Plymouth’s defence, naval and technology sectors.

The economic growth across the Tamar is expected to create thousands of skilled jobs, with Treledan in Saltash being promoted as a new community ideally placed for people working in Plymouth.

Major investment announced for HM Naval Base Devonport includes £7.1 billion of upgrades through Project Royal Oak, part of a £26 billion, ten-year programme to modernise the Royal Navy’s principal bases.

The programme will help prepare Devonport for the arrival of the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates.

A further £500 million is being invested in Plymouth’s Commando Forces, while £50m from the Plymouth Defence Growth Deal will support expansion of the city’s National Centre for Marine Autonomy.

Defence technology company Helsing has also opened its first UK Resilience Factory at Langage Business Park.

Developers behind Treledan say the scale of investment could increase demand for homes on the Cornwall side of the Tamar.

Treledan is being developed across a 300-acre site and will eventually provide around 1,000 homes.

The Saltash development is also set to include a new primary school, sports pitches, play areas, allotments, community orchards and extensive public open space. A cycleway, footbridge over the A38 and new access roundabout are also planned.
