Rugby- Eclipse Sevens and Fun day
St Austell RFC have been approached by Rugby Network Ltd to host a Seven-a-side tournament on Eclipse Day on August 11.
The aims are to provide a fun day for local people and holidav makers, an accessible site to view the Eclipse. with the Sevens matches as the centre of attraction. Several South \\~est clubs ha\~e been approached. and many companies have offered to sponsor the event. 250o of the profits will be given to the ~Iount Edgcumbe Hospice.
Rugby Network Ltd are involved with financial management, promotion and marketing, sponsorship, technical advice and other activities in Rugby Lujon. Thev are managed bv Rav Williams. who was until recentlv Chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union and Jeff Pavne, who was a member of the organising committee for the Commonwealth Games last year.
The Sevens tournament will involve 6 teams in a straight knock-out event. The first match will commence afier the Eclipse, so both players and spectators can view the event of the Ccnturv from an ideal elevated position. with refreshments and bar facilities available all day. The gates will open from 7.00 am and the final event will take place at around 6.3Opm.
Entries are expected from Wales. Gloucestershire, Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. All first round losers will compete in a Plate competition. The prizes are £3500 for the wining team. £1000 for the ruisier up and £500 for the winner of the plate competition. An individual, company or organisation is sponsoring each team.
Spectator entry will be by programme with free entry for children under 16.
