Saltash Rock Choir are absolutely delighted to be back together once again after a torrid 21 months which has limited their opportunities not only to rehearse but to fundraise for local charities.
Under the expert tutelage of inspirational Choir Leader Richard Toomer, the choir made a concerted effort to not lose touch with one another, rehearsing virtually via Zoom and through YouTube videos. This has allowed them to continue to learn and add songs to their vast repertoire as they prepare to finally return to performing live as we approach the festive season.
Supporting local charities has always been a priority for the Rock Choir members, and while the singing has continued, albeit virtually, raising funds for their chosen charities has proved challenging during the various lockdowns. Despite this, and at a time when all charities are in desperate need, the Saltash Rock Choir are incredibly proud to have raised £797 for Children’s Hospice South West last Christmas. In addition to that, earlier this year the Choir supported Saltash Food Bank with a sizeable donation from the 70-strong membership.
After a prolonged absence from the rehearsal hall, the Choir have finally been back together and practicing in person once again since September, busy learning three new songs plus some Christmas favourites in preparation for their performance at the Polperro lights switch-
on which took place in the first week of December.
The Choir will also be once more lending their support to the Pirate FM annual Christmas Toy Appeal. Each choir member bought an extra Christmas present in the form of a toy for a child, boy or girl, as part of the initiative to support disadvantaged children in the local area.
The toys were brought along to the choir’s last rehearsal before Christmas and left unwrapped so they could be appropriately distributed to the children across Cornwall.
The Saltash Rock Choir is looking forward to returning to a semblance of normality next year with plenty of singing, live performances and fundraising.
