THE Kelly Bray Residents Association (KBRA) says it is very much alive and kicking, despite its failed bid to keep a hall for use in the village. Towards the end of a five-year dispute between the Association, the Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institues (CFWI) and the Charities Commission over the ownership of the hall, during which time the keys were surrendered to the WI, the hall was registered as an Asset of Community Value, giving KBRA the right to place a bid with the CFWI to buy the building. The WI declined the Association’s offer of £2,500 and now KBRA must wait another six months before it can make a new bid – but before then, the WI says it will put the hall up for sale on the open market.

Meanwhile, the Residents Association says it will continue to meet in the Swingle Tree pub, and that with various activities planned, new members will receive a warm welcome. ‘The Kelly Bray Residents Association is very much alive,’ said a spokesman. ‘We are currently looking at setting up a Community Speedwatch scheme, and we are planning a fun-filled party for the whole village to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday on Saturday June 11.
