A researcher has appealed for help in his bid to honour a fallen hero of the Second World War.

Liskeard-born Royal Marine Commando Edward George Rowe gave his life in the bitter fighting following the D-Day landings of 1944. He was 23.

Now the son of one of the men he served with is trying to find our more about Edward in time for a 75th anniversary commemoration in the Normandy village where he and his fallen comrades are honoured.

Jeff, a retired civilian member of Thames Valley Police, said: ‘He was born on November 5, 1920, in Liskeard.

’Before enlisting in May 1941, he was a farm labourer living in Trevelmond.

‘He had a wife called Veronica Beatrice Rowe and his parents were William Henry and Bessie Maude Rowe, who lived in Pennant Cottage, Dobwalls.

‘If there is anyone who recognises Edward’s name or knows anything about him as a young man or may have pictures or papers about him, I would love to hear from them.’

Edward George Rowe fought alongside Jeff’s late father Albert John Henry (Harry) Hewitt.
