The Christmas Lights Appeal was given a £200 boost on Thursday by Steve Batters of the Trot Inn. The pub raised the money through a horse racing evening, and Steve and barmaid Michaela handed over the cash to John Tivnan. John set up the Torpoint Events Company last year to organise the Christmas lights and other community events in the town. He is currently applying for charitable status to help events go ahead. The Christmas Lights switch-on will take place on December 1, with brand new lights for the town. John said: 'This is the first time in ages we will have new lights and it should be very good. 'We have invited a number of guests and are hoping a celebrity will switch them on. We are also running a Christmas poster competition with children from local schools taking part, and aim to have the winners there as well.'
