A TRAINEE sailor, who has only been in the Royal Navy since July, will have the honour of marching through the streets of his home town on Sunday when HMS Raleigh celebrates the tenth anniversary of being granted the Freedom of Torpoint. Budding Engineering Technician (ET) David Miller (22) will be among the ceremonial guard made up of recruits who are about to embark on the final week of their eight-week training course. The guard will march ahead of the six platoons made up of sailors, based at the Royal Navy's premier Westcountry training establishment. A former pupil of Torpoint Community College, ET Miller served in the Army for five years. Looking for a change in career direction, he decided to transfer to the Royal Navy and is due to complete the first phase of his initial course next Friday. He will then head off to HMS Sultan in Hampshire for his specialist training. ET Miller said: 'It's feels a bit weird to think that I'll be marching through Torpoint. All my close family live here, so I expect to see a few familiar faces in the crowd.' Also taking part in the Freedom parade will be Chief Petty Officer Linda Cooper (42), also a former pupil of Torpoint Community College.
