Campaigners are mounting a voter registration drive encouraging people to cast their votes in the June 8 General Election.

Liskeard Community Action members say they hope to increase voter registration and empower local participation in democracy.

Many young people, women and those facing financial hardship are not registered to vote and will not vote, says the group.

Members aim to offer practical support, as well as distributing leaflets and online encouragement using the hastags #SPEAKUP and #TURNUP.

People must register by May 22 to be able to vote in person or by May 23 for postal votes.

Personal details and a National Insurance Number are needed to register.
