Unions in Cornwall are meeting this week to consider the impact of Brexit on the county.
The South West TUC’s learning and skills conference in Redruth on February 10 will look at how unions can help deliver skills and support workers after Brexit.
The conference will also discuss how employers will fill the gaps left by migrant workers from the EU, specifically the issue of how many foreign nationals will remain in the county after the EU referendum.
Regional secretary Nigel Costley said: ‘Employers are becoming increasingly concerned they may not be able to recruit enough staff.’
Unions will also be pressing the government to cover the costs of EU learning initiative and skill development programmes.
Mr Costley said: ‘Cornwall, as one of the poorest counties in the UK, received a lot of money from the EU, so what happens to that money now?’
