Cornwall Council’s new leader has promised to treat all parts of Cornwall fairly.

Adam Paynter, who represents Launceston North and North Petherwin, said he was conscious of the concerns of people living on the ‘edges’ of Cornwall.

‘I live right on the Devon border, and I am very aware of the differences. Cornwall is a very long and diverse county - I know that many of the communities feel they are a long way away and that everything seems to happen in Truro.’

Cllr Paynter said each council representative was a ‘champion’ for their division, regardless of party, and the council would work together to ensure no area of the county felt left out.

‘All of us need to put forward what will work in our areas so that we have fairness in services and the delivery of things,’ he said.

‘ As councillors we were elected to do our very best for all the people of Cornwall. We need to make sure nobody gets that feeling that everything happens elsewhere.’
