CORNWALL Council says it has had lots of interest from firms who want to run the county’s leisure centres. The cash-strapped council has been trying to gauge how much interest there is in running leisure facilities, because it is aiming to cut all subsidies as part of a long-term leisure strategy. There has already been strong interest from the market, said a council spokesman, after an ‘invitation to tender’ was released on February 8. The first submissions from bidders are due to be returned to Cornwall Council by April 18. To ensure potential bidders and local organisations have the chance to speak to Cornwall Council’s project team before submitting their bids, ‘Bidder Days’ are being held this month. These events will include a tour of the leisure centres and an opportunity to meet interested local companies. The events aim to ensure all tenderers have a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities. Over the previous 18 months, the council has invested around £4m across Cornwall’s 15 leisure centres to reduce a backlog of maintenance works
