‘What does it mean to be Cornish in the 21st Century?’

This will be one of the questions up for debate at a public meeting on Monday evening.

Led by playwright, journalist and Bard of Gorsedh Kernow, Simon Parker, the aim of the discussion is to take a fresh look at what it means to be Cornish. Participants will be asked to consider how Cornish identity has changed in recent decades - and how this identity is expressed in a modern society.

The event is being organised by Jerome Satterthwaite of the Labour Party’s Rame and Torpoint branch, and will be the fourteenth such forum so far.

‘Previous topics have included education, international relations, the climate crisis, philosophy and economics,’ said a spokesperson for the SE Cornwall Labour Party.

‘The sessions are informal and friendly, with a chance to chip in with views – or just listen.’

Place and Identity: A Foray into Cornwall’s Past, Present and Future is on Monday December 16 from 7-9pm at The Halfway House, Polbathic.
