PROTESTERS from South East Cornwall joined in a mass demonstration in support of the European Union.
Members of Cornwall for Europe travelled to Exeter on Saturday to join other South West pro-EU groups for a march through the city centre and rally to demand a referendum on the final Brexit deal.
The Cornwall For Europe group marched behind their new banner made by Emmanuelle Brook.
An estimated 2000-plus people listened to speeches from students, farmers, European nationals affected by Brexit and politicians including Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw (Labour), Molly Scott Cato MEP (Green) and Julie Girling MEP (Conservative who now sits as an Independent).
‘Cornwall is likely to be among the worst affected by Brexit,’ said a spokesperson for Cornwall for Europe, ‘especially once the huge EU financial and practical assistance is withdrawn.
‘We must fight this for Cornwall and for the nation as a whole. Brexit is not a done deal, by a long way - as recent events have shown.’
The group sets up regular stalls: the next one is in Truro (outside the library) on April 6 from 11am to 1pm.
