WEST CLUBS
WOMEN'S LEAGUE SOUTH DIVISION
Caradon Ladies 2
Exe Ladies 0
Exe can be an unpredictable team so Cara-don had to have their wits about them to avoid disappointment in this South Division clash.
The plan was to move the ball and pass around, which was displayed excellently from the first whistle.
There was some lovely short passes down the left hand side of the pitch between Amy Greenbank and Glayne Price, and the Exe D was penetrated in the opening minutes of the game.
The marking was superb and forced errors from the opposition throughout the game.
An early awarded penalty corner saw Clare Poad take a clear strike at goal narrowly missing the deflection on the post.
Caradon worked well as a team, and the reliable defensive back four showed no mercy to the Exe forwards. Exe didn't give up the fight, though, and when they had possession made some decisive runs towards Caradon's goal.
Poad and Price were an awesome twosome taking on Exe's defence by passing and reacting to deflected balls from the 'keeper.
Their determination paid off when the ball crept over the line for the first goal of the game.
With a 1-0 margin at half-time, Caradon were raring to start the second period with the same drive and determination that they opened the game with. Exe came out with a more structured passing game, which put Caradon a bit on the back foot, and they were pressured to step up their game.
The play was spread well, and there were drives down both sides with Carina Batten getting on the end of some well placed through-balls from EJ Mullis.
The final whistle went just after a penalty corner had been awarded. The ball was injected at pace by 'Player-of-the-Match' Greenbank, and Poad took no hesitation in securing a 2-0 win when the ball resounded off the backboard!
Caradon will hope to keep this form when they travel to Dawlish to play top-of-the-table Teignmouth tomorrow.
