AS A result of high street banks closing in Camborne, an application has been submitted for a new banking hub in the former Santander premises on Trelowarren Street.

The applicant, Cash Access UK Limited, is a not-for-profit company set up by several UK banks and building societies to enable consumers and small businesses to access cash, deposit and basic banking services where they are needed across the UK.

The proposed works include the installation of an external ATM, removal of the existing external ramp (to be replaced with an internal ramp), adjustment of the entrance door to accommodate new floor levels and replacement of the shopfront glazing with toughened glass.

A supporting statement read: “The proposed use of the building as a banking hub will deliver significant public benefits in light of the closure of banks in Camborne.

“This facility will provide essential community infrastructure, safeguarding access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents who need practical financial support, particularly those who may be vulnerable for a range of reasons.

“Such services remain vital for many individuals and small businesses who continue to rely on them.”
