A PARISH council is backing the concept of a café in a converted horsebox in a coastal hamlet in South East Cornwall.

Damien Moore and Becky Lillie hope to fulfil their dream of running a café from their property in Lansallos, along the coast from Polperro.

They propose a high-end but rustic feel to the venue, which would be run from a temporary converted horsebox structure with seating and tables outside. The couple want to cater for both local visitors and tourists, and say that they would use only locally-sourced products.

In their application they state: “We want to support the local economy whilst ensuring we maintain minimal impact on the village, as we believe locals and tourists come to Lansallos for its natural beauty.”

The café would probably be open from March to October, with trading hours yet to be decided.

While a formal planning response is yet to be given by Polperro Community Council, members had indicated they would support the idea of such a café, provided that there were no significant and valid objections from local people. The council said that the proposal seemed “unobtrusive and would not establish a permanent change in the landscape, as would a new building”.
