A new development of affordable housing is nearing completion at Sunrising in East Looe, where the former Barbican Pre-school building was demolished in 2011.

The plans to build 15 Cornwall Council-funded homes on land off the Glebelands caused anger among some parents when it was announced in 2013.

As part of the scheme, the existing play park serving the Barbican area of Looe was demolished. The development, which is being built by Cornish firm Gilbert and Goode Construction, includes three three-bedroom homes, four two-bedroom flats and eight one-bedroom flats, all for social rent. Cornwall Council says the properties will be highly energy-efficient and economical to run. A play area will also be created at the site.
