Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club hosted its annual Grand Slam meeting on Saturday, with a strong entry in all classes.

Tom Perry proved to be the rider to beat in both the 500cc and up to 350cc classes, winning seven of eight heats contested, despite not making the best of the gate in most heats.

The up to 350cc class was decided on points from four rides, with Perry taking maximum 48.

Sharp gating from Max Sandford saw him take the lead early on in each race and helped him on the way to second overall, while Jon Shanes claimed third.

Recent speedway convert Josh Dingle, riding the only 250cc machine in the class, had a mixed day with a fall in his first ride second behind Perry in leg two, dropped a chain in leg three and third behind Perry and Sandford in leg four.

The Solo Open saw four different race winners in the heats, Perry and Jason Prynne taking three apiece with Chesney King and Karl Mills claiming one each.

In the final Prynne made the start to lead, with Perry relegated

to fifth place early on. But he

gradually worked through the field and passed Prynne on the last

bend to take the final, as Karl Miles claimed third and King fourth.

Dave Meadows took the Uprights class after being unopposed in the final heat due to Richard Cooper's machine suffering engine failure.

The 12 heats of Right Hand Sidecar action produced no fewer than eight different race winners. Leading the qualifiers into the final were Rob Wilson and Terry Saunters and Mark Cosser and Carl Blyth with three victories apiece.

Other race winners were Steve Smith and Matt Vickery, Andy Gribble and Neil Owen, Myles Simmons and Kevin Woodley, Richard Thomas and Jason Barry, and Mark Warren and Liam Brown.

Wilson made the best of the start in the final to lead from Owen, with Cossar in third. Cossar passed Owen on the second lap but was unable to close the gap to Wilson over the remaining race distance.

Owen held onto third from Gribble in fourth, Thomas fifth and Warren sixth.

Three wins in the first three heats was enough for Terry Nicholas and Craig Scott to claim the overall win from Paul Marley and Andy Dye and Charley Ridley and Steven Bowles, who survived a nasty incident in the third leg when they clipped the back of the Nicholas-Scott outfit and crashed out of the race.

Elsewhere, in the Youth class, Henry Atkins claimed the Auto Cadets with a maximum score ahead of Mary Gribble, who challenged hard all day. Anders Rowe took third place, Max Cherry fourth and Lily Mae Walker fifth. Callan Phillips dominated the Cadets with a maximum ahead of Jack Dummett and Keiron Vaughen.

Finally, James Shanes showed dominant form in the Juniors with a maximum score to claim class honours ahead of Ashton Webb in second and Zac Wajtknecht third.

Sunday's race meeting took on added significance with the club dedicating the day as a benefit for Phil Stoneman, who has recently undergone surgery to remove the leg badly injured in an accident at last year's Masters.

A large crowd witnessed a day of close track action in all classes, but a heavy shower brought a premature end to the meeting, with points deciding the place in the Solo and Sidecar Opens.

The 16 heats of 1,000cc Right Hand Sidecar action produced nine different winners.

Mark Cossar and Carl Blyth led the field with four victories ahead of the pairs of Rob Wilson and Terry Saunters with three and Paul Whitlam and Ben Whitlam and Myles Simmons and Kevin Woodley with two apiece.

Steve Smith and Matt Vickery, Paul Johnson and Nick Wilson, Neil Owen and Phil Collyer, John Hiscock and Carl Bell and Robbie Wilson and Colin Hill all collected heat wins.

With a four-ride maximum, Cossar and Blyth took the title on the day, the result over Wilson in race 21 proving vital at the end of the day.

Wilson and Saunters claimed second in a reversal of the top two from Saturday's meeting.

Simmons and Woodley were third, Robbie Wilson and Hill fourth, and the Whitlam duo fifth.

The op local crew was Jamie Bree and Mark Truscott in sixth. Neil Owen, with stand-in passenger Phil Collyer, looked set to feature strongly with a result in the second leg but, as they crossed the line, Collyer parted company with the machine and the crew decided to call it a day.

The 1,000cc Left Hand Sidecar class went the way of Martin Cuff and Steve North, who reeled off three wins to defeat Saturday's class winners Terry Nicholls and Craig Scott. Third went to Andrew Evans and Darren Davis by a single point from Paul Marley and Andy Dye. The 500cc Sidecar field was hit by a number of withdrawals, leaving Mike Read and Mark Hopkins to take the wins in the first two legs from Wayne Reed and Craig Mathison, with positions reversed on the final two legs to leave honours even.

Tom Perry was again the rider to beat in the solos, continuing his form from Saturday with seven wins from eight races contested to take the up to 350cc and Open class wins for a second day in a row.

Perry's only defeat was inflicted by Josh Dingle in the second leg of the up to 350cc class.

Dingle took second on the day – an impressive result riding the only 250cc machine contesting the day. Jon Shanes took third.

Kevin Williams was second in the Open, recording two victories along the way, with third overall going to Chesney King.

The other race winner on the day was Wayne Barrett, who only contested two legs of the Open. Jason Prynne recorded three second places in the first three heats, but dropped to sixth in the final standings after missing the final heat.

Mike Bowden snr looked set to take the Uprights honours, reeling off three wins in the first three legs, but ignition problems on the way to the gate in the final leg left the way clear for Mike Bowden jnr to take the class honours.

Dave Meadows was second, with Bowden Senior relegated to third due to not scoring in the final leg.

In a reversal of Saturday's result in the Invitation, Max Sandford claimed the win ahead of Keith Snelling with Steve Pearce third.

In the Youths, Henry Atkins claimed the Auto Cadets ahead of Mary Gribble with three wins to one, with Anders Rowe third.

The Cadets saw a repeat of the previous day's results, with Callan Phillips taking first place ahead of Jack Dummett and Keiron Vaughen.

James Shanes again showed dominant form in the Juniors with a maximum score to claim class honours ahead of Zac Wajtknecht in second and Ashton Webb third.
