Caradon Swimming Club finished in seventh place in the National Arena Swimming League's Third Division after some excellent results at the final Promotional Gala augured well for the future of the South East Cornwall Club.

The Caradon swimmers, already in buoyant form after recent events, made the journey from Liskeard and Saltash to Newport in South Wales to take on seven other clubs from the South West region.

Some strong swimming in the earlier draws saw Caradon going into the gala, seeded seventh.

There was serious opposition from Swindon Dolphins and Tornadoes of West Dorset, who had both dominating the competition in the first two rounds, while the other teams – Torfaen B, Bristol North, Tavistock, Celtic Sharks and Barry – would all be looking for a good showing.

But it was Caradon who gave their best performance and produced some great swimming during the afternoon with a handful of personal best performances.

Although there were no first place finishes for the East Cornwall contingent there were a host of tantalisingly close races.
