Wurlitza - the group that specialises in performing live music to soundtrack silent movies - is making a return to Calstock Arts on Saturday, January 13 with their new project A Cottage on Dartmoor, a 1929 silent masterpiece by director Antony Asquith.

The film’s plot involves an escaped convict, a love triangle, jealousy, hairdressing and, of course, Dartmoor.

The British Film Institute describes A Cottage On Dartmoor as ‘a fine example of the best of European silent film techniques. One of the last silent films to be made in Britain before the talkies revolutionized cinema, Asquith’s film is a virtuoso piece of film-making’.

The eclectic soundtrack includes music by Beethoven, Satie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tom Waits, Coldplay and Blondie.
