NEW Years Day dippers will be plunging into the sea for a good cause on beaches around South East Cornwall.

In Polperro, the third New Year’s Day Dip is set to go ahead at 10am. The event will be raising money for the RNLI and participants can register from the top of the beach steps from 9.30am.

The event is being supported by The Blue Peter Inn and Rosina’s Vontage Gifts. Spokesperson for the organisers Steve Dourass said: ‘This is a great way to raise funds for good causes and have some fun - whilst clearing the head after the previous night. All taking part will also get a complimentary hot drink after the plunge - and the chance to win a meal for two at the Blue Peter.’

Keen swimmers can even do a ‘double dip’ if they choose by heading from Polperro over to East Looe, where the RNLI will be staging their annual New Year’s Day Dip at 11am.

Meanwhile in Cawsand, prizes will be awarded to the best fancy dress as teams and individuals take part in the New Year’s Day Dip organised by Torpoint and Rame Peninsula Lions.

Those taking part can nominate a charity of their choice to benefit as well as supporting local Lions causes.

Participants in the dip will be parading down from Kingsand Village Hall from just before 12 noon and are expected to be in the water from around 12.15pm onwards.
