FOLLOWING letters from Mr Jackman concerning the proposed speed limit on the B3253 road out of Looe and his objections, I felt compelled to write in reply.

Any changes to improve the standards of driving on that road should be welcomed. It is difficult to decide what the answer is because by the very nature of the road's layout with twists and turns, hedges and trees, visibility is poor.

Speed restrictions, I think, are a very good place to start. Most of the accidents occurring on the B3253 involve locals not holidaymakers (who could use the excuse of not knowing the road) which might lead to the conclusion that local drivers are not as careful as they should be because they do know the road and therefore are not prepared for the uncertainty of other drivers' misjudgements. I have a personal interest in wanting improvements on that road as three years ago I lost my darling son Adam Dudley in a car crash which happened on the Tregoad 'dip'.

My son was a front seat passenger wearing a seat belt. Speed was a factor in the accident.

I put it to Mr Jackman that waiting in a queue of traffic feeling 'frustrated' is so much more preferable to the heartbreak and total devastation of losing a loved one.

All I can do now is lay flowers for my son.

So please do not hinder those who are trying to make things better and don't let another family suffer as we have.
