Readers who have a scar, or know of someone who does, will be interested to hear about a new research project.

The Scar Information Service is carrying out the first major research project into Keloid and hypertrophic scarring, which it is estimated affects 6.5 million people in the UK. People who are susceptible to this type of scarring find that the scar remains red and raised and that the scar tissue can even increase in size so that it becomes larger than the actual injury.

Sufferers can help the Scar Information Service with its research by filling in a simple self-completion questionnaire, which can be obtained by calling the Scar Information Service on 0845 1200022 (local rate) or by writing to Scar Information Service, PO Box 2003, Hull HU3 4DJ.

The Scar Information Service is an initiative which aims to provide information about scars and treatments and to direct people to organisations which may be able to offer help. A free booklet has already been produced by the organisation and can be obtained by calling the above number or writing to the address.
